President's Challenge 2010- Tie that Blind, We are One

I just attended the President’s Challenge (PC) 2010 launch last Saturday (26 June 2010). It was held at the People’s Association (PA) headquarters. The carnival was themed, “Ties that Bind, We are One.”

Introduction
The President’s Challenge is an annual series of community-based activities initiated by President S R Nathan in 2000. The aims of President’s Challenge are firstly, to increase awareness about how the community can get involved in helping the less fortunate and secondly, to raise funds for the social service sector. It is hoped that by doing this, a more cohesive society would be created. The Challenge also aims to convey that the more able in society have a special responsibility to help the rest of society and that all Singaporeans can make a difference in our community.

The President’s Challenge highlights the role of the public, people and private sectors in meeting these aims through their participation in events organised during the week.

Prior to the President’s Challenge, there were several charity events carrying the President's name organised at different points during the year. President S R Nathan decided that it would be better to consolidate all such events onto a single President's Challenge platform and make this the premier annual project for the social services sector to rally the public towards helping those in need of assistance.

Goodies bag for us!!!

Beneficiaries
Each year, President’s Office would select a list of beneficiaries who are in need of funds or have problems raising funds on their own as beneficiaries of President’s Challenge. Organisers raising funds for President’s Challenge have the option of directing funds to selected beneficiaries from the list.
Click here to view the list of beneficiaries for President’s Challenge 2009.

In addition, various other organisations, including schools, institutions of higher learning, private corporations and public service organisations had organised their own in-house fund-raising activities in support of President’s Challenge 2009, during or outside of the President’s Challenge week.

President's Challenge 2009 raised a total of approximately $10 million for 37 beneficiaries including the Comm Chest.

I'm eating a Dinosaur!!!

"I'm eating a Dinosaur!"
"Have you tried it?"
Haha...
Yes, it is actually BreadTalk's bun named as "Dinosaur" and not a real
dinosaur!

The Dinosaur is really cute and for a moment I couldn.t bear eating it...
But in the end I still ate it! Yummy!!! This bun was out for sale in 2002!

"Jurassic Park 3" sales surged through the roof, so did the BreadTalk's Dinosaur buns filled with diced chicken sausages.

《侏罗纪公园3》票房大卖,BreadTalk 的鸡肉香肠恐龙也同样大受欢迎!

Exclusive- Checking Out Olympus Pen E-P1 camera

Do you know?
The Olympus Pen E-P1, is the company's first
Micro Four Thirds (MFT) camera -- a miniaturized alternative to a digital SLR (DSLR).

Why it's different:
The E-P1's retro styling stands out among other DSLR and point-and-shoot cameras. The compact body is a result of the MFT system, which reduces bulk by forgoing an SLR's internal mirror and prism for through-the-lens viewing. The result is a camera significantly smaller and lighter than a DSLR, but with the flexibility of interchangeable lenses and the photo quality that comes from a large image sensor.

Me and a few friends came down to the event at Vivo City to check out the Olympus new camera!!!

And we have Esther giving us an introduction to the Olympus E-P1.

What she like:
"I like that the camera has various art modes for example my favourite which is the Pinhole effect, the grainy one which adds alot of 'feel' and the soft glow one which gives the dreamy look. Other options also include light tone, poplook (vivid colours), and pale&light. The "E-Portrait" function is also a blessing for all girls because it eliminates the blemishes from your face. No need for photoshop anymore!"

"All this functions can also be used on the video function of the camera! I filmed this video using the various effects and it's such an easy task when it comes to editing cos I just have to join the clips together! No need add more effects. It was very easy to change from one ART function to another too."

"Besides having good functions, what's most important to alot of people ultimately is the looks. I had always loved DSLR pictures but I've never thought of owning one because it's too bulky and heavy, it's very unlikely I would bring it out. However, the Olympus PEN ep-1 being a mini DSLR, it's very compact compared to normal DSLRs, yet gives the same sharp focus and blur background effect that I love."

"Although there are other brands in the market that offers compact dslr as well, but in terms of the overall size (together with the lens), this one is still smaller."

"What made most of my friends exclaim with love is the design. It looks so vintage, totally in style. I liked how it looks cute, with colourful and pretty accessories that comes with it (red pouch and strap with pink skinning! There are also other colours to choose from). A black big dslr would not fit into my style!"

Esther's video taking was awsome!
And they were taken using Olympus Pen E-P1!

Check it out below here!

Now that you seen the video... Do you think it is awsome!!

Thanks Esther for the good introduction!!!

What I like:
I simply love the E-P1's vintage looks. And it easily fits into my small bag, so I can easily take the camera out anywhere.

E-P1 also includes several "art filters" that let you apply post-processing effects to your images in-camera or on your computer using the included software (if you shoot in the RAW, or unprocessed, file format). It may sound like a novelty feature, but some of the effects (pinhole and grainy black-and-white, in particular) produce wonderful results. Best of all, these effects, as well as a live preview of your exposure, can be seen in real time on the camera's three-inch LCD screen.

It’s sure a fantastic camera for advanced users who want a more portable alternative to their DSLR.
