About Sunsilk Academy Fantasia
It started with more than 500 contestants. One private casting, two full days of open auditions in a shopping mall and thereafter one closed-door audition to further sieve out the gems. Today, the newly-minted 14 finalists of the inaugural Sunsilk Academy Fantasia are finally unveiled! The winner of this competition will walk away with a two-year singing contract and a recording album with Ocean Butterflies Music.
These finalists come from all walks of life, ranging from university students to a former FHM model; a British man who is a Vice President in an established foreign bank, and a Malaysian who is a dead-ringer for local singer JJ Lin. There are also two Chinese nationals amongst the finalists. One of them arrived in Singapore just a month ago to enrol in a local music school, but was sidetracked by this competition instead.
Sunsilk Academy Fantasia is StarHub’s first major foray into content production, alongside local renowned production house, Refinery Media. It is set to make waves when it hits our viewing screens on 8 July 2012. A purpose-built academy in an undisclosed location in Singapore, with multiple hidden surveillance cameras will be home to the finalists for the next 10 weeks. They will be putting their work and studies on hold, to lead a different life under the limelight, under constant public scrutiny, and have limited access to phones and internet, cut off from the outside world.
The production which will be broadcasted across multiple platforms on TV, internet and mobile is set to titillate and engage viewers with its non-stop 18 hours surveillance on the finalists. During their stay in the academy, the finalists will undergo intensive training from reputable experts in singing and dancing, professional grooming and make their debut performances as finalists at the first weekly concert on 14 July 2012. Concerts will be held every Saturday at Dragonfly Bar, St James Power Station.
Mr Tan Tong Hai, Chief Operating Officer of StarHub expressed,“This is an extremely exciting moment for Sunsilk Academy Fantasia as we have discovered some real talent in our 14 finalists. They are like diamonds in the raw. With proper training and guidance, I am sure they will all blossom and shine during the course of the competition.”
In line with its ongoing efforts to uncover and groom talents, StarHub is offering third-year students from Nanyang Polytechnic’s School of Business Management an opportunity to produce mini episodes of behind-the-scenes and concert rehearsal footages. These mini episodes, about two minutes each, will then be shared on Sunsilk Academy Fantasia’sFacebook page and on YouTube.
Mr Tan added, “Sunsilk Academy Fantasia is not just an excellent platform for budding singers to showcase their talent, but it is also the perfect platform for StarHub to engage budding producers from Nanyang Polytechnic, to have a better understanding of what is happening behind-the-scenes, and use this opportunity to acquire critical skills on content production.”
Mr Lee Tong Nge, Director, School of Business Management of Nanyang Polytechnic enthused, “Nanyang Polytechnic’s School of Business Management is delighted to partner StarHub, Singapore’s leading pay TV operator for the production of Sunsilk Academy Fantasia. Our students and staff are extremely excited to have the opportunity to be part of this iconic project. This collaboration will greatly benefit our students as it allows them to unleash their creativity while deepening their understanding of content production and management for a production of such a scale.”
