Goldleaf Restaurant 45th Anniversary Promotion

Goldleaf (金葉餐廰) Restaurant is celebrating their 45th Anniversary this year.

Goldleaf Restarant is formally know as the "New Taiwan Porridge Restaurant" which recognizable for it's authentic taste of Taiwan Porridge and Dishes. Goldleaf was founded in 1971 along Orchard Road, which was home to the icons of old such as the Mariott (Dynasty) Hotel, Lido and Orchard Theatre. Back then, celebrities such as the late Theresa Teng visits them whenever she was here in Singapore.

However, as Singapore modernized and the government began reclaiming Orchard Road, Goldleaf was forced to relocate in the 90s, first to Orchard Point then to Tanjong Pagar and Finally, Goldleaf settled in its current location along the nostalgic Amoy Street, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Goldleaf Restaurant offers fragrance traditional Taiwanese porridge (known as sweet potato porridge) as well as delectable authentic Taiwan dishes at a reasonable price in a comfortable ambiance.

Taiwan Lettuce (鵝菜) - S$10 / S$16
A seasonal vegetable. Best stir fry with garlic or sambal. Very crunchy and smooth to delight your palate.

Seafood Bean-curd (海鮮脆豆腐) - S$8
Crispy on the outside and soft from the inside. A nice sweet taste of the seafood filling and it goes even well with their home made chili sauce.

Goldenleaf Prawn Rolls (金叶虾枣) - S$8 / S$12
One of their specialty. Uses the freshest ingrediants to produce this 7-decades old favourite signature dish. Definitely a must have item of the house.

Braised Pork with Preserved Vegetables (金叶梅菜扣肉) - S$16
Another must try item. Pork was stewed till soft and tender that it literally melts in your mouth immediately. Immensely delicious.

Steamed Pork Pattie with Salted fish (咸鱼蒸肉饼) - S$10
Steamed daily. Probably i am not a fan of salted fish, as the taste itself is a bit too fishy for me. Probably i would switch to the steamed pork pattie with salted egg yolk for my next visit.

Deep-fried Tamban Fish (麻仁香鱼) - S$10
These "Kelong"catch brings back memory of the good old days. The fish are deep fried to its bones, crispy and wholesome.Lots of calcium. One of my favourite dish.

Volcano Tofu - (火山脆豆腐) - S$14
The bowl-liked tofu is so well crafted and topped with Stir-Fry Ginger and Spring Onions with Chicken. Tofu bowl is made using the same ingredients as the seafood tofu i have introduced earlier. The taste of the Stir-Fry Ginger and Spring Onions with Chicken is a little bit too sweet for the sauce.

Chye-Por (Preserved Radish) Omelette (菜圃蛋) - S$10
Alright, i have to say this was really remarkably good. The chye-por was spread evenly all around the whole omelette. The outer part of the omelette was well fried to golden crust. When you chew on it in your mouth, it was soft yet a little crispy and a little crunchy as you munch on the tiny bits of the chye-por. Its been a long time i've tried such a perfectly done Chye-Por omelette. It really brings back good old memories.

Signature Cod with Speciality Sauce (煎雪魚) - S$12/100g
The Cod is fried to its perfection. Very fresh and moist texture. The sauce brings gives a flavourful taste that brings out to its best. Truely a class of its own.

Fried Minced Pork with Olives (橄榄肉碎) - S$10
Another favourite of mine. This will be good when you spread over your bowl of porridge. Its very addictive and you can't stop having it.

Salted Egg, Salted Fish and Preserved Cai Sim (鹹蛋,鹹魚,菜心) -
Back to basics. Back in the olden days, people plainly can just complete their meal with these few dishes. That time was so simple yet feel contented.

Stir-fried Beancurd in Chili Sauce (麻婆豆腐) -
Tofu is silky and smooth. Sauce was a bit watery but taste is still not as bad. I like it more starchy and a lot more spicy.

Oyster Mee Sua (蚝面线) -  S$12 / S$18
Same here. Soup base is too watery. Different from the kind of typical Taiwnese Oyster Mee Sua. The good thing here is that the oyster is fresh, juicy and big.

Longan Tofu (龍眼豆腐) - S$4.50/serving
Probably this dessert is not my cup of tea. I do love longan tofu but this is way too sweet for my taste bud.

Herbal Jelly (龟苓膏) -  S$4.50/serving
Bitter sweet taste. Refreshing and healthy. Worth a try
