What is  R eunion Dinner (Chinese: 团圆饭 (TUAN YUAN FAN)   ? A reunion dinner is held on New Year's Eve of the Chinese New Year, during which family members get together to celebrate. I would say it is an important occasion for all Chinese families.  Yes, you can say anyday can be Reunion Dinner but how often do people do that? When I was young, eating with family are very common. Sitting down at the dining table with my siblings and watching my mum dishing out our favorite food from the kitchen. After dinner, my dad will normally help my mum with the washing. I believed this happened to many of us. But as we grew older... But as we grew older, we started schooling and get to know a lot of new friends and often hang out with them for dinner. Today is Chinese New Year's Eve and it's a day where Chinese families gather for their annual reunion dinner. It is also known as Chú Xī (除夕) or "Eve of the Passing Year." The annual dinner normally includes dishes like chicken and pork. Fish (魚, yú) is also one of the dishes, but intentionally not to be finished, and the remaining fish is stored overnight. Why is that so? Because 年年有魚/餘; (nián nián yǒu yú, or "every year there is fish/leftover") is a homophone for phrases which mean "be blessed every year" or "have profit every year". Similarly there is also a black hair-like algae, "fat choy"(髮菜, fǎ cài, literally "hair vegetable" in Cantonese) is also one of the featured dishes since its name sounds similar to "prosperity"(發財, fā cái). My mum decided to have steamboat for Reunion Dinner again this year... Probably because she like it more homely and the food are more fresh and healthly (NO MSG). I love veggies! Stay healthy this Chinese New Year too! Go eat more veggies! Pork Shabu Shabu is good for Steamboat! I love eatinh the thin slice pork meat. Wow! This is also my favorite steamboat food- Chesse Toufu! Shrimp Wontan is great for soup... I don't normally eat prawn because I'm too lazy to take out the prawn's shell... Thanks mum for the preparation! There is so much variety of food on the table! Mum is the best! Hmmm... Taste the sweetness in the soup... Frying my Cheese Toufu... Yummilicious...
