A Nostalgic Dining Experience at Enjoy Eating House and Bar

Calling all food (especially zi-char) lovers!!!

This is not any ordinary Hor Fun you see in Singapore. This is Chef Joel's Silky Egg Crispy Hor Fun ($11.80)! Who else fries hor fun like that? The thick flat rice noodles are deep fried till it is crispy before adding into the gravy. I can enjoy crunchy noodles at the beginning and have a tasty softer noodle towards the end.I can enjoy crispy noodles at the beginning and have a tasty softer noodle towards the end. This is one of my favorite zi-char dishes on the menu curated by Chef Joel and his team at Enjoy Eating House and Bar. The menu celebrates all the Asian influences that make Singaporean food so unique.

Situated in the very rustic Kam Leng Hotel along Jalan Besar, the resto-bar has a similar retro and cosy feel to its interior. The decor highlights the poignancy of the restaurant's dishes as they are many of the dishes we grew up with as Singaporeans. It is a great place for the whole family.

The name “Enjoy Eating House & Bar” came about as Chef Joel feel it evokes a certain nostalgia and they really wanted to create a place where patrons can feel at home and enjoy themselves comfortably with great food and company.

With a strong focus on food quality, Chef Joel endeavour to use the best and freshest ingredients; the kind you’d expect to use when entertaining guests at home. All of their sauces are made in-house with no added MSG and the food is prepared to order so every dish is served freshly cooked.

Here are the four main signature dishes styled as the Four Heavenly Kings of Enjoy Eating House:

#1 Brandy White Fish Soup

Made from scratch by boiling fried fish bones for hours to achieve a collagen-rich soup with a natural milky consistency. A shot of brandy was added to elevate the flavour of the soup.
#2 Singapore-style Chilli Prawns
.
Singaporeans may be more familiar with the crab version of this dish but Chef Joel presents a fuss-free version with pan-seared sea prawns. The homemade sauce certainly packs a punch. Not to mention that it tastes exceptional good when you dip the fried mantous with the sauce.
#3 Chef J’s BBQ Pork

A Thai-inspired dish- the texture and juiciness of the meat is what makes it such a crowd favourite.

#4 Grandma’s “Te Kah” Bee Hoon

The thing that first hits me is that wok-hei. The braised pork leg is so tender, juicy, and oh-so-flavourful!

Other must try dishes includes the following dishes:

ENJOY "Har Jeong Kai" Wings

Crispy fried fresh mid joints marinated with shrimp paste. It has always been my favourite dish since younger days.
Ugly Cabbage in Fish Sauce

It's simple and unassuming appearance belies its strong wok hei-infused flavour.

Hakka "Nam Lu" Crispy Pork Belly

Pork belly marinated with red fermented tofu made from red yeast rice. It is a great sharing dish and pairs well with beer.

Signature Salt Baked Whole Sea Bass

Baked in salt to highlight the freshness and natural sweetness of the fish. According to the restaurant is sourced from a local seawater farm in the waters of Pulau Ubin that doesn't use any antibiotics or chemical addictives. The fish is then delivered within hours of harvest to ensure optimum freshness. This is my mum's favorite dish!

Teochew "Orh Ni"

A Traditional Teochew dessert. Sweet Yam paste with coconut milk, pumpkin puree and ginko nuts. It tastes sweet, creamy, and very good.

Chendol Panna Cotta

To round-off the meal, the chendol panna cotta will impress with its layers of flavours and textures. Pandan noodles and frangrant Gula Melaka atop sweet coconut cream pudding.

At night, you can expect a more chill-out vibe when the light are more dimmed.
It is a the perfect place to hang out with reasonably priced drinks, delicious food and live football.

INTERVIEW WITH MR WORLD SINGAPORE 2022 (SENIOR): S3 UMAR ABDUL HAMID

 1) During your entire time of Mr World Singapore 2022 from the time you auditioned till you won the title, tell us - what was the most overwhelming moment for you? Personally, as the grand final day drew nearer, and diet and water had to be stricter, it was hard trying to keep up with the nutrition portion as well as the rest and recovery portion. Aside from that, i was starting to feel a little more anxious that i should and a huge part of it was because i invited my mother to be part of the audience and i wanted the event to be memorable for her. But i guess everything was worth it in the end.  2) What was the prep process like? From the auditions all the way to the Grand Finals, i knew i had to step up as prior to the audition, i let myself go quite abit because of the fact that i was juggling between work and handling my 3 children. But i guess after the audition. i made a clear intent to give 100% to get ready for the grand finals and since then, i made more conscious de...
