Rainforest World Music Festival 2022
Set against the magnificient backdrop of the legendary Mt.Santubong, the three-day Rainforest World Music Festival is a stunning occasion. I really fortunate to have attended this bizarre festival with daytime music workshops, cultural displays, craft displays, food stalls, and main-stage evening concerts.
I went with my BFF - Elaine Heng and we flew in to Kuching via Malaysia Airlines.
As it was just a short flight, I did not really sleep but enjoy some movie watching.
We were served with hot meal too. I had Curry Chicken Rice.
We stayed in Damail Beach Resort.
The resort is situated along the sandy shores of Teluk Bandung, facing breathtaking South China Sea (Northwest coast of Borneo) in a 90-acre seaside secluded haven.
Nestled amidst the oldest tropical rainforest in the world, on the slopes of the legendary and majestic Mount Santubong, it is only a 40-minute drive from Kuching, the capital of Sarawak, and a 50-minute drive from Kuching International Airport.
We reached 1 day before the start of Rainforest World Music Festival and had some time to relax and chill in the resort.
We woke up early for buffet breakfast at Cafe Satang in the Resort. The restaurant also serves lunch and dinner too.
Excellent view for sunset and to enjoy the sea breeze.
Also prepare your handphone battery for endless selfie and wefie!
We even spend some time to chill and relax at The Sunset Club Borneo by the beach for some cocktail.
Really loved these photo taken by Elaine. This one below was taken at The Sunset Club Borneo
And this was taken at the beach in front of The Sunset Club Borneo. T
he sky was extremely beautiful especially during the sunset hours.
Relax and soak in the scenery of the bay as the light fades away and the stars start to light up the evening sky. Yeah, we also had a scrumptious BBQ dinner with a lot of different kind of meats and seafood.
With the theme ‘Legendary Rainforest Celebration’, this year’s edition of
Rainforest World Music Festival featured 60 performers from Canada, India, USA, Finland, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore, Japan, Australia, Mexico, New Zealand, China, Bhutan and Seoul among others, with Majlis Seni Sarawak mixing traditional Sarawakian music with international flavours!
This is the first hybrid event to be held since the festival's beginning in 1998.
So while the physical concert took place at the Sarawak cultural Village, viewers can also livestream it from their homes by an online viewing platform.
This was my first time attending the Rainforest World Music Festival. There were also a market area where you can buy local handicraft products too. Perfect for those people who want to buy some unique souvenirs.
For daytime activities, there were a series of workshops, arts and crafts exhibitions, and live shows in selected venues. The sape class that Pusak's Association of Seniors in Music teaches gained a lot of traction among enthusiasts because they learned how to play the traditional lute.
Met Miss Malaysia Dewi Liana Seriestha at the dance workshop conducted by Zehyr Dance Studio.
Me and Elaine also enjoy great dance performance by Zephyr Dance Studio.
Beside enjoying good music at Rainforest World Music Festival , you can look forward to a lot of delicious food and drinks!
My personal favourite and highly recommended are the Sarawak Laksa, Mee Kolok Mangkuk Merah and the Chrysanthemum Soft Serve Ice-cream!
We managed to pop by Journify booth by Malaysia Airlines and got to enjoy some complimentary chocolate ice-cream.
How can we not take a photo with the stage before the crowd start to flood in?
Perks as a media, we get these media passes which gave us access to be right in front the stage to have a better view and also easier to create our content.
It was spectacular and inspiring to see people from all over the world unite and support each other through music.
Some of the performers included Alena Mura, At Adau, Bamboo Woods, Rining Peter Paris, Bourbon Lassi, Fauziah Gambus & The Geng, Hayree Hashim, Lan E Tuyang and Nikita Sarna from Malaysia, Balawan Batuan Gamelan Fusion from Indonesia, BluGuru from Australia and of course from Singapore, we had Flame of The Forest.
A major indication that the festival would return for its 26th edition was the fact that it exceeded its target attendance goal of 12,000 attendees.
The next RWMF will be held in June of next year, according to the press conference given by the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
During our stay in Sarawak, we also went on a day tour to visit the city.
We visited the Borneo Cultural Museum, had scrumptious lunch in the Court House, walk around the vicinity and ended off with a stroll by the Waterfront, where we saw the iconic Kuching Esplanade.
