Coming March 2011, Singapore could be one show closer to becoming the “Broadway of Asia”! Why? That's because Disney’s long-awaited, award-winning Broadway musical, The Lion King, opens at the brand new 1,630-capacity Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands (MBS) . MBS and BASE Entertainment, who are bringing in the musical, made the announcement together on Tuesday to mark the Southeast Asia debut of the mega-production, which will cost over S$10 million to stage and produce over the next several years. When can we see it? The musical will be the resident show at the Sands Theatre and it will run 8 times a week, starting from 3 March 2011. Originally slated to open in September, it was delayed as the Sands theatre could not be completed on time, leaving some 200 show applicants — including stage, light and sound technicians – hanging.
