Rainforest World Music Festival 2022

Set against the magnificient backdrop of the legendary Mt.Santubong, the three-day Rainforest World Music Festival is a stunning occasion . I really fortunate to have attended this bizarre festival  with daytime music workshops, cultural displays, craft displays, food stalls, and main-stage evening concerts. I went with my BFF -  Elaine Heng  and we flew in to Kuching via Malaysia Airlines. As it was just a short flight, I did not really sleep but enjoy some movie watching. We were served with hot meal too. I had Curry Chicken Rice. We stayed in Damail Beach Resort. The resort is situated along the sandy shores of Teluk Bandung, facing breathtaking South China Sea (Northwest coast of Borneo) in a 90-acre seaside secluded haven.  Nestled amidst the oldest tropical rainforest in the world, on the slopes of the legendary and majestic Mount Santubong, it is only a 40-minute drive from Kuching, the capital of Sarawak, and a 50-minute drive from Kuching International Airpo...

What comes to mind when Sarawak is mentioned? We probably remember that it is a Malaysian state and one that is closely associated with Sabah. Yet, we don't really know what it is well known for, its people and their culture.  We travelled to the Mongkos Bidayuh Village. It is home to one of the few remaining traditional Bidayuh longhouses in Sarawak and we got to see for ourselves what exactly these longhouses look like.  The longhouses were built with the concept of expansion such that when family members were married, they would add to the existing house and that is how the longhouse slowly expanded. It is demonstrative of their culture which revolves around family. Built of bamboo and wood, it is quite traditional. Notice that part of the house is covered in a mat? When walking on the mat we were advised to take off our shoes and we also got to walk on their bamboo-made floors.  Homestays are offered here and you will be surprised to ...
