My first time setting up a Christmas Tree for my new house

This is my first time owning and setting up a Christmas tree as I just had my new house.

I always wanted to get one since I was young, but did not have the chance as I was staying at my mum's place.

Now that I finally got my own place (4 rooms HDB house) and I decided to have a Christmas tree. Christmas mean a lot to me as on that very day my mum gave birth to me and make me a Santa baby! Ever since that day, I always celebrate my birthday with my family and friends with a logcake as my birthday cake. No complain except for the 2in1 present (Christmas + Birthday). 

We are less than 2 weeks away from Christmas. Lights and decorations have already popped up in Orchard Road and many shopping malls in Singapore – and chances are you may even have watched a Christmas movie or popped on a festive tune or two to get into the yuletide spirit. 

Well out of curiousity, you may be also wondering when is the official time to have your Christmas tree up, or whether it’s unlucky to do it too early, I've got everything you need to know.

When should you put your Christmas tree up and when should you take it down?

Christmas trees are traditionally put up at the start of Advent, on the fourth Sunday before Christmas.

This year falls on the 28th of November. So, if you are keen to get your festive decorations up early, this is the earliest date that tradition dictates you should be putting your tree up. Meaning you can start putting up now!

Some people said it is unlucky to put your tree up prior to this date, but other traditions claim erecting your tree more than 12 days before Christmas is unlucky, too. 

Meanwhile, Roman Catholic tradition states that the tree shouldn’t put up until the afternoon of Christmas Eve. However, putting your decorations up early can extend the excitement of the season and psychoanalysts have found it can have a positive effect on people’s moods. Looking at the Chirstmas tree and deco definitely makes me happy every day!

Well so my advice, just put up the decorations anytime you feel like it. 

So is there any official date to take down the Christmas tree?

Yes, traditionally be done on January 5 or 6, on what is known as the Twelfth Night. In Christianity, Christmas celebrations last 12 days, although some count the days from Christmas Day and others on Boxing Day, which is why the final day is contested. 

Tradition dictates that having decorations up after this date is unlucky. And then of course, some people just keep their decorations up all year round.

How long does a real Christmas tree last?

With a little bit of care, a real pine tree can last for over four weeks.

After you assemble the tree up, you can remove the plastic wraps.
