INTERVIEW WITH MR WORLD SINGAPORE 2022 (SENIOR): S3 UMAR ABDUL HAMID

 1) During your entire time of Mr World Singapore 2022 from the time you auditioned till you won the title, tell us - what was the most overwhelming moment for you?

Personally, as the grand final day drew nearer, and diet and water had to be stricter, it was hard trying to keep up with the nutrition portion as well as the rest and recovery portion. Aside from that, i was starting to feel a little more anxious that i should and a huge part of it was because i invited my mother to be part of the audience and i wanted the event to be memorable for her. But i guess everything was worth it in the end. 

2) What was the prep process like?

From the auditions all the way to the Grand Finals, i knew i had to step up as prior to the audition, i let myself go quite abit because of the fact that i was juggling between work and handling my 3 children. But i guess after the audition. i made a clear intent to give 100% to get ready for the grand finals and since then, i made more conscious decisions to watch my diet, increase my cardio and gym sessions as well as to cut out processed food. In the end, i brought my weight down from 90 to 78kg and body fat percentage from 18% to 9% on the eve of the grand finals 

3) Are there any nervous moments and stress factors during the competition and how did you deal with it?

haha there were so many nervous moments that i actually lost track! from the photoshoot where i felt so inferior to the other hunks with hot bodies, to the actual day event, counting down the hours till i see my mother at the back of the hall. 

I put in the extra effort to ensure that my body was going to be in shape and im thankful that on the day of the event, i knew it can stack up with the rest. For the nerves, i kept reminding myself that i've prepared so hard for this day so i'm just going to enjoy the show and do my best and leave the decision to the judges. i'm thankful and blessed to be able to takeaway the title at the end :) 

4)  What's the one thing you wish someone had prepared you for before you won the title?

i wish someone could tell me this journey would be more mental than physical! the nerves, the anxiety and the pressure (by myself, on myself mostly) was alot as i demanded and expected alot from myself, especially because i did not want to let others like Beam management and friends and family down .

5) When you look back, is there something you wish you did differently?

If there's one thing i'd do differently, is to be able to get to know the other contestants on a deeper and more personal level as after knowing them at surface level, theyre really wonderful people. 

6) For the guys who want join Mr World Singapore in the future, what are some tips you can suggest?

Find the right intent on why you are joining such pageants. Know that you are putting yourself out there to be judged, and possibly trolled and ridiculed. But if u standfast with your intent on joining, and what learning and experience you can get out of it, you'll find it a very enriching and memorable experience that money can't buy. 

7) What has been the best piece of advice given to you so far and by whom?

My mother, hands down. She always tells me and reminds me- For everything 10 things a person has done, 8 might be good 2 might be bad. Focus on the good, not because you want to overlook the bad, but because you want to seek peace. 

8) Any words you like to say to your supporter?

Thank you for voting and believing in me and for taking time off your busy scheduled to check in and pass some words of encouragement  

Thank you very much for believing and supporting in me since day 1, even to strangers-turned-friends who offered really sound advice even when they didnt know me back then. It really boosted my confidence and gave me the extra push. 

9) Tell us a little bit about your upcoming plans?

As of now, im just enjoying the moment and taking things step by step. For sure ill be catching abit more on my sleep as well as on work and family. If any opportunity or collaboration does arise, ill consider it carefully and weigh it before making any commitments.
