SKECHERS, the Number 1 walking footwear brand in the United States, officially opened its 18th and largest flagship store at Takashimaya Shopping Centre, Ngee Ann City recently (1 July 2015), with special appearance by newly-appointed SKECHERS Brand Ambassador and popular KPOP Girl Group, SISTAR. 

Hosted by popular radio DJ Sonia Chew, more than 300 guests, comprising members of the media, fashion influencers, VIP guests and trade partners, turned up from 5.00pm to partake in the opening festivities as well as to explore the new store and collection.

Spanning 1,700 square-feet, this is the first Asian flagship store to embrace an industrial and modern concept, accompanied by a touch of vintage elements. The store's entrance is framed by a brick wall to give a raw industrial edge juxtaposed by the modern inviting interior. Utilizing silver metal supports with exposed welds and fasteners, the store space exudes a constructed and contemporary look.

The new store also boasts a well-planned Lifestyle and Performance footwear sections for men and women as well as a dedicated area for kids' footwear, where multi-coloured LED technology is used to illuminate glass-etched SKECHERS cartoon characters to attract children to browse at the different levels of products.

As canap├ęs like Smoked Salmon with Salsa Dip & Lump Fish Caviar and Sesame Chicken Roulade Topped with Asian Salsa and sparkling wine flowed freely, the mood at the official opening was light-hearted and joyous, with an air of anticipation to catch a glimpse of SISTAR. When the four girls – Hyolyn, Soyou, Bora and Dasom, arrived, a flurry of flashes took over as the quartet gamely smiled and put their best foot forward (donned in Skechers D’Lites range) for the cameras at the backdrop.

Officer of SKECHERS China Limited, Mr. Michael Leung, Vice Chairman of SKECHERS Southeast Asia, Mr. Vincent Leung, President of SKECHERS South East Asia, Ms Susan Chua, Vice President of SKECHERS ASEAN, and SISTAR jointly activated a SKECHERS light globe with their hands to symbolise the official opening of new flagship, as a celebratory spray of silver and blue confetti filled the air.

Many members of the media and guests alike guests were seen trying out and buying the latest SKECHERS footwear offerings before they proceeded to the After-Party at ION2, ION Orchard.

Guests were greeted with more free-flowing sparkling wine and a sumptuous buffet spread of exquisite dishes like Mediterranean-style Oven Grilled Chicken, Grilled Portobello Mushroom & Shiitake Salad and Coquilles St. Jacques as the After-Party kicked off with a short speech by Mr. Michael Leung, Vice Chairman of SKECHERS Southeast Asia.

A high energy dance performance opened the fashion show before the models appeared in SKECHERS' latest collection of footwear GOWalk, Performance and D’Lites that were showcased in three distinct segments. From colour-blocking ensemble to sporty chic and monochromatic looks, the fashion show fully demonstrated the extensive range and versatility of SKECHERS footwear.

Indeed, there is always a SKECHERS footwear that caters to any and every style or function.

After the fashion show concluded, the atmosphere got even hotter as SISTAR came onto the stage to greet the sea of invited guests and frenzied fans. The talented and well-toned girl quartet, comprising Hyolyn, Soyou Bora and Dasom, dressed in sporty and colourful outfits matched with SKECHERS D’Lites range of footwear, wasted no time in teasing the audience as they burst into the first number with their new song "Shake It", from their latest mini-album of the same title launched on 22 June 2015.

As both die-hard fans and KPop novices alike continue to scream, sing or dance along, SISTAR, known for their sexy body waves and butt-shaking movements, performed two of their past hits, "Ma Boy” and "Touch My Body" before bidding the 1,000-strong audience farewell. The meet and greet session with SISTAR saw 100 lucky and overjoyed fans having the opportunity to take a photo with their KPop idols.

Besides editors and members of the fashion, lifestyle and entertainment media who turned up in full force, some familiar personalities who turned for the Official Opening and After-Party with SISTAR included MTV Asia VJs Hanli Hoefer and Alan Wong; radio DJs Jamie Yeo (Gold 90.5FM), Daphne Khoo (Power 98FM), Charmaine Phua (Power 98FM) and Heng Kae In (88.3FM); TV hosts Yvette King and Paul Foster; actors Keagan Kang and Natalia Tang; wushu exponent and actor Vincent Ng; Ex-National Swimmer Joscelin Yeo; models Wendy Jacobs and Fiona Fussi; amongst many others.
