SUCRE, the traditional baked mooncake specialist, doubles its mooncake offerings, bringing this to a total of 12 mooncake flavours this Mid-Autumn Festival 2015.
“This year’s inspiration for the mooncake gift box is the aptly titled Fleurs d’Automne, also known as ‘Flowers of Autumn’, which take the form of the gold-laced floral motifs covering the box,” explains Lucy Pek, founder of SUCRE.
“Ash blue was chosen as the backdrop colour to convey the mood of high autumn. At the same time, the flowers on the box are designed such that they are ‘emptied’ of colour to reflect Mid-Autumn as well as the changing season.”
The Fleurs d’Automne gift box is replete with SUCRE’s signature colours of bold pink and luxurious gold. Design-wise, the floral outlines in gold are reminiscent of a luxurious arabesque as the overlapping flowers in two different shades of pink create a strong textural contrast. Each Fleurs d’Automne gift box will be accompanied by a luxurious paper bag in hot pink colour, fronted on two sides with an intricate gold ornamentation.

This year’s highlight flavour is the auspicious-sounding ‘Phoenix’ or '鳳黄', another perennial favourite with a twist – White Lotus Seed Paste with Pineapple and Single Yolk. ‘Phoenix’ is a play on the Mandarin word for the single yolk as well as the pineapple filling. The evenly grated pineapple filling in this traditional baked mooncake has a tart accent which perfectly balances the saltiness of the single yolk with the sweetness of the white lotus seed paste.
Last year’s best-selling White Lotus Seed Paste with Cherries is back by popular demand – this year, SUCRE will up the ante by introducing Organic Cherries as an ingredient in this traditional baked mooncake for those with a taste for the finer things in life.
For traditional baked mooncake purists, SUCRE has included in this year’s offerings the following: White Lotus Seed Paste with Melon Seeds, White Lotus Seed with Single/Double Yolks, and Mixed Nuts (五仁). The artisanal brand will also introduce 2 new unique tea-flavoured mooncakes – White Lotus Seed Paste with a blend of Oolong & Pu-er Tea and White Lotus Seed Paste with Oolong Tea and Osmanthus Flowers.
